Hip Hop magazines/ Analysis

Hip Hop Magazines

There are many Magazines which feature the Hip Hop genre and the two most popular was include RESPECT and XXL. These front covers commonly include a black or grey background with red or especially white font, this helps the magazine to standout a lot more, Another technique to help attract customers is the big bold font, which is much more eye-catching than small font. Also usually promotional offers are included on these covers such as XXL has "THE 100 BEST HIP-HOP WEBSITES" which might convince the reader to buy their magazine. Many props are used on front covers to infer the reader/ viewer of the specific genre such as; chains, money, jewellery and also tattoos, lastly handcuffs which infers that majority of these rappers are against the law and don't like it. Normally the artists picture is taken with a mid-view up, this helps to focus on the artists tattoo work which link to the genre but also their face. For example 50 cent can be depicted on the bottom left with a serious look on his face to inform the reader that he doesn't mess around and Hip Hop/ rap is real and lyrics spoken are the truth. A lot of these artists glorify weapons to show how powerful they can actually be, such as 2pac on the left can be seen with a Magnum on his gold chain. Again to show that these artists are wealthy they show it off, especially modern artists such as 50 cent. Many off these artist have nicknames which helps the reader remember the artist due to the fact that they can be very catchy. The light grey background makes the artist the centre of attention. The last technique used is a slogan "THE FUTURE IS NOW" which not only attracts the reader but also gives them a rough estimate/ understanding of what the Magazine will be focused on.
